"It's Life, Jimmy, and just as we know it" Funny and poignant, this is the male answer to chick-lit! Take an irreverent yet insightful journey through the life of this middle-aged, angst-ridden Irish Civil Servant in the Department of Public Infrastructure and Services (PubIS for short). Devlin has captured the soul of the public servant and distilled it into the spirit of a man who knows that spirits can't always soothe the soul, but he can have fun trying... at least until he slips quietly and unexpectedly into a mid-life crisis and its attendant soul-searching. High spirits mixed carefully with soulful exploration of personal growth - a heady cocktail!

"Some comments from readers" From MR, USA I could have done with less swearing as I think it takes away from the story line. But I guess it depends on who you were targeting for the story. I thought the story line was good, as I think we have all been in that position. From BD, Dublin ... all utterly cringe-inducing! Unputdownable From JL, Dublin Enjoyed your book - very "Roddy Doyle-esque with a touch of Nick Hornby" I thought. I look forward to the sequel(s)? < />From ND, Meath Does exactly what it says on the cover ... enjoyed it From PW, Dublin ... kept me late for work this morning, but kept reading. Very impressed From TM, Dublin I'm not book reader (apart from a bit of John Grisham) but I must say I really enjoyed the book and would unreservedly recommend it to all and sundry. My good wife also found it to be a great read... From KB, Dublin Got the autobiography a few weeks back, great laugh. Love the bit about the young wan willing to get up on... More > anything, even a doorknob! From JON, Dublin Thoroughly enjoyed it ... has me looking at my male colleagues in a whole new light From MM, Dublin Brave ... funny ... its openness at a personal level is quite frightening From RH, Dublin ... a tender, ribald, portrait< Less
