Being a former employee for the Oregon Department of Forestry, an avid rafter of the wild section of the Rogue River, and living in the Grants Pass area, I bought this book, on request from a mutual friend, to find out more about who Ron McCormick was, and his thoughts on balanced forestry practices. Now that I have read the book, I was very impressed with how Ron presented it from his childhood years, all the way to being Forest Supervisor of the Siskiyou National Forest . I was especially drawn to the rafting parts of the book, and the forest fire fighting, and what decisions Ron had to make as supervisor, even having to miss the fun parts of his raft trip that he and his family and friends were so looking forward to doing, the famous Blossom Bar Rapids. As Ron was battling the Silver fire, I was battling the Galice Complex fire on state and BLM land. I highly recommend anybody who likes forestry as a career, wild land firefighting, or even rafting, would enjoy reading this book. It... More > is well thought out, and presenting in a way that makes you see it from Ron's eyes. There's good humor, seriousness, and frustration when having to deal with the government's political garbage, and choosing the timber industry over a sound and balanced eco-system for all to enjoy.< Less
