"Please Don't Circumcise My Clitoris" is an invocation arranged by Roxanna Gómez Sequeira with the fertile blood of her life experience of a woman, lover, and visionary. Her word is the fruit of her peculiar existence—the umbilical cord of her intellectual passion mixed with the fear, pleasure, and pain that living life may produce. Like her ovaries, which are the transmitters of the biology of her sensations, her poems are the transmissions of her sensorial, dreamful experience transformed into art. This book is a record of her life—a manifesto of the ecstasy and pain of being a "daughter of Eve" in a world dominated by a religious-military brotherhood. It is her loving embrace to all the women in the world whose clitoris is circumcised by the men they create. These sons of Eve violate their mothers, daughters, and wives in a futile attempt to negate the true source of their lives and feminine fate. Humberto Gómez Sequeira, Editor

"I write about the body," Roxanna Gómez Sequeira writes in the preface of her book of poetry, Please Don't Circumcise My Clitoris, "a vehicle that carries energy and eternal magic." In her poem "Just Naked Images," Gómez Sequeira writes of a "sensorial attack / of unrestrained pleasure… unremorseful, unafraid." The entire collection of poems is in fact a proclamation as well as an attack. Gómez Sequeira is unremorseful and unafraid about her desires, fears, mind, and body, and her collection encourages women as well as men to celebrate and explore pleasure and pain without fear. Her poems are an attack on those who would want to slow down and settle down. In "Flowers of Bloom," Gómez Sequeira writes: "I’ll snatch the world by its ass / Do as I please / Always saying what I mean." And she does just that. Please Don't Circumcise My Clitoris is full of power and will give the reader power.
