Lacky overhears the evil Wizard Eldridge cast a spell and tells his homeless buddy Mudge all about it. Mudge soon learns that when they are casting spells, they are actually hacking into the software running the universe. At first, magic seemed more fun than anything. Only one day, when he made a woman he knew appear out of thin air, did the moral implications of what he was doing confront him. How could you remain at all moral, when your every wish, your every whim, was a mere set of words away? He could have practically anything he wanted. Surely there must be something to keep him on the straight and narrow, some constraint besides his own conscious. A conscious was such a weak thing, so easy to break. He could see how it could stop functioning all together, in very short order.
