This is a story about awakening from radical indifference. It’s also a story about the dark liquid center that lies at the heart of our modern world: oil. For most of his career, Mason Burnside saw himself as a lot like CEO Jack Masterson. All those years playing his cards right, fighting his way up the ladder, getting steadily closer to what he'd always thought was the goal. But that was all before his triumphal Ecuador project turned into an environmental disaster. Taking the fall for it, he finds himself demoted to the humiliating position of sustainability manager. This leads him to a conference in New Orleans where he crosses paths with Jacob and Diana , until a category 4 storm sweeps them all into chaos. Before then, he never would have agreed to lead the dramatic attempt to rescue his predecessor, John Pennington who had mysteriously disappeared somewhere in Asia after stumbling upon an internal intrigue so damaging, that Masterson would stop at nothing to keep it secret.

Oct 13, 2009"Vapor Trails Review" The authors have done an amazing job, and likely the first of its kind, telling a story that reflects the harsh realities of the current state of the world and the impacts of climate change. Often a story unfolds and facts are bolted on to emphasize the intended message. Here, the story is written around the existing facts in such a way that readers not directly involved in sustainability and climate change gain access to this information. The challenge is that readers may not realize how factually accurate this book is and thus not embrace the urgency of the situation and how we as individuals need to take action." - Darcy Winslow, Founder of DSW Collective, LLC. and Executive-in-Residence at MIT's Sloan School of Management
Oct 10, 2009"A riveting read!" The old cliché review is, "I laughed. I cried." But I literally welled up reading Vapor Trails, and I literally laughed. There are no throw away characters here, each was intriguing, believable and deftly woven into the story. I couldn't wait to get back to this book. And the context of environmental, economic, and social sustainability issues(and their interconnections) complements the riveting story unfolding without any hint of being preachy. I recommend it highly!
Oct 8, 2009"VAPOUR TRAILS" MR.SIEGEL AND MR.SAILLANT HAVE CREATED AN EXCELLENT PIECE OF LITERATURE.. IT'S THAT TYPE OF A BOOK THAT WOULD ENTICE YOU TO READ IT MORE THAN ONCE TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ABSORBED THE TRUE FEELINGS AND VALUES THAT THIS TALE EMITS.***** FRANK HAWKES..
Oct 6, 2009"I couldn't put it down. Timely message." I am not usually a novel reader. When I saw that my husband couldn't put down Vapor Trails despite his schedule, I decided to check it out. Once I started, I couldn't put it down. The novel artfully blends environmental, corporate and political perspectives, facts and storytelling, education and entertainment. I believe "vapor trails" will become part of our everyday lexicon like "a perfect storm".
Oct 2, 2009"A Terrific Read" Last night I completed Vapor Trails, flying through the last 175 or so pages in one sitting. After writing down that "you rarely, if ever, saw your own [vapor trail]," I put my reviewer's pencil away and read for the sheer enjoyment and thrill that this riveting novel provides. While the scientist and engineer in me was pulled in by the details about CO2 sequestration, and the organization behaviorist soaked in the E-Staff dynamics and the whole systems implications, the fiction writer and reader was thoroughly entertained by the narrative and the character transformations. There is a serious cinematic appeal that makes Vapor Trails both educational and entertaining. Indeed I can see a major motion picture in the works. Read the book before Hollywood makes it a "must-see."
