I learned so much about life during the Great Depression and World War II from reading this book - what life was like in a small southern mill town, personal stories of World War II, young love during wartime, personal stories of family, faith, friends. If you have a mother or father, grandmother or grandfather who lived during those years, this book would make a perfect gift for them. The short story format makes it easy to read and the stories are both informative and fascinating.

A very interesting collection of essays and stories on a variety of topics. First-hand accounts of life in the 1920s, 30s, and 40s are hard to come by, and this book contains many of them. The Chronicles of Ruth is an enjoyable, inspirational, and informative read.

What a fascinating book! Short, interesting, charming stories about life in the 1930s - 2000, in the South. I laughed at some stories, and cried with others. I highly recommend this!
