The story of the Cockertons from Soham, England, to Livermore, California, as told by the great-granddaughter of Mathew Cockerton, Ruth Gates Lindenmeyer. Mathew Cockerton emigrated to the United States in 1849 and settled in Illinois. One of his sons, Ebenezer Cockerton, continued the journey westward to Livermore, California, settling in the Altamont in 1868. The story includes not only the Cockertons, but many of the related families with surnames of Gates, Wiltfong, Jones, Nickerson, Benedict, Dolan, Sweet, Stamper and Driver. Edited and compiled by Linda A. Driver, with illustrations, footnotes, index and family genealogy.
