This is a really interesting book that can teach us a lot about just how hard day-to-day life was in the early 1920s and 30s. It talks a lot about things that were not around (off the rack cloths, pre-packaged food etc) and of the things that were once a part of pre-war life (paraffin lamps, milk and bread delivered by horse and cart, mending cloths, sawdust on the butcher's floor and heaps more). It is a time that is sad in terms of what we have lost and yet good in other ways. A good book about the Christadelphian community and how they lived back then and, to a large extent, still do. You do not have to be a Christadelphian to read this book as it is well-written and very engaging. I am enjoying it very much.
