This is a selection from the Ante-Nicene Fathers Volume 2 that contains the 2nd Century Christian writings of: Hermas, Tatian, Theophilus, & Athenagoras. Pastor of Hermas, also called "The Shepherd" was widely read by early Christians. Tatian was a disciple of Justin Martyr that became a heretic after Justin's death. His other famous work is called, "Diatessaron" which means, fourfold. It combines all four Gospels, Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John into a single writing and it can be found in Volume 9. Theophilus was Bishop of Antioch and Christian apologist. Athenagoras was a Greek philosopher before his conversion and became a Christian apologist. Athengoras's apology was presented to Emperors Marcus Aurelius and Commodus around 177 AD. Originally printed in 1885 by the Christian Literature Publishing Company. This is a re-print of a selection from that edition. Original editors were Rev. Alexander Roberts and James Donaldson, and revised by Cleveland Coxe. This is a wide-margin format to allow space for notes.
