Sallie's inside account of refugees' anguished 'walk to freedom', only to be locked in limbo in camps on the island of Samos, offers a potent perspective on this humanitarian crisis. Documenting the voices of individuals affected by the trauma of dislocation quietly - and powerfully - gives us insight into the lives of millions. Coaxed by the interviewer's deep concern for her subjects, and gentle retelling of their stories, we are compelled to consider our own obligations to humanity. 'Hear Me' would make great required reading in a high school English class!

This is a very worthwhile and timely book. It gave me a much better understanding of the refugees of Samos and other refugee camps and the unthinkable and horrible situation they are in. The author's introductions of the interviewees set the stage for the interviews and the conversations are very open and revealing. I’m glad that their English wasn't corrected. Sometimes it makes it a little hard to understand, but that is the way it would be if I could have been there listening, and it made me feel like I was part of the experience. This book gives faces, real people, to this terrible situation.

A poignant, inspiring and also depressing story all at the same time. The immigrants' stories are gripping for sure very timely considering what's going on with our own immigration issues in the USA. While depressing at times the overall feeling is a testament to the strength of human spirit.
