"Actually written by David A. Deaderick III" I just finished reading this, and it is a really well written narrative. It is funny, and detailed and clear. His descriptions of fighting in a pointless, ill-lead war are rich and occasionally gruesome. Despite wording that is occasionally dated, it feels very immediate and modern. One small note, in the Atlantic Monthly, it was attributed to "Anonymous" and it is now known to have been written by my great-great-great granduncle, David A Deaderick III. He did fight with Walker, and based this upon his experiences.
