Magic'Pocalypse is a role playing game for 2-7 players in a post-apocalyptic world of magic, monsters, survival, and rebuilding.
How would you survive and rebuild after the fall of civilization?
What if you had the powers of magical creatures?
How would you fare against the monsters that wiped out most of humanity?
Players use a small handful of assorted dice, a simple character sheet, and a few easy rules to tell a fantastic story with their friends.
• Play an Anointed, Elemental, Faerie Warrior, Noble Magician, Mad Scientist, Mythical Beast, or Psychic by day.
• Play an Alien, Construct, Dark Magus, Demon, Ghost, Lycanthrope, or Undead at night.
• Explore a once familiar setting, now full of danger and mystery.
• Includes a simple, easy to read character sheet with all the charts and information needed to play.
• Easy adventure creation (even on the fly) with random charts to help come up with plots and monsters.
• No other books needed.

In one Magic'pocalypse game I played, we chose an easily defensible structure in our RL hometown (a Naval ship, an armory, and college were considered, but we, madly, chose the hospital). Then we imagined our town overrun by magic and an assortment of monsters. We put ourselves within a walled off city surrounding the hospital trying to defend our enclave from the onslaught of magic along with a band of survivors. However, we, as Magic'pocalyse "heroes" were tainted by magic and not completely trustworthy ourselves (And, really, what kleptomaniacal, opportunistic mad scientist/scavenging were-hyena trying to pass themselves off as a simple custodian could completely gain your trust?). So, when the town mayor was killed we odd ones were blamed and set out onto the dangerous wilds of the overgrown interstate in hopes of stealing supplies from a vampire-defended Costco to win the town's favor. After we succeeded, we said, "Well, screw those narrow-minded town folk."... More > but then, thinking better of annihilation, managed to put one of our party into position as the new Mayor ;-) Magic'pocalypse offers: • a fun, simple dice system inspired by the FATE system; it uses a handful of all your favorite shapes • a system that lets heroes be successful with their powers, but also keeps them in check in an entertaining way • unique dayside and night side entities, like playing two characters in one, which offers some interesting built-in storytelling complications • quick character creation and game play • a fun trophy system for character growth • good tips for GMs and sample plots • a flexible system that will allow a GM to introduce all kinds of monsters with a sample bestiary • a different take on dystopian/utopian and hero/villain worldviews — in Magic'pocalypse good and evil may best be described as "it's complicated" • modern, swords and sorcery, Victorian, and future setting options • built-in tension and plot via the survivalist setting It's great for: • a plot, character, and storytelling-focused gaming group that wants to try a new system with unusual settings and character concepts • a GM who wants to try a new system/setting which provides good gaming drama that their players can get into quickly • a GM who wants to hone/use their story-telling and plotting skills • anyone interested in games with magic and monsters in an apocalyptic setting which allows for flexible game play Disclosure: This totally biased review is by the author's wife.< Less
