This is MY FATHER'S book! Read it today if you've ever wondered what it was like for Vets in Vietnam. It is also his life story. He talks about growing up, and his life before Vietnam, and afterwards. There are some very funny stories included. I even learned some new things about him because he never told me, he just decided to write about it!

I found it to be not only informative but also entertaining. Once I had started reading it I could not stop. As a dependent of an Air Force pilot later a career officer, it brought back many forgotten memories. I joined the Air Force for the reasons Sam did and went on to basic training where he did, so we shared many of the same experiences. I loved reading his personal accounts of his overseas tour in Thailand as a crew chief supporting the Vietnam War. Whether you served in the military or not, lt really gives you a feeling for what Air Force life was like--especially during the 1970s. He does not end there, he continues to enlighten the reader of his wonderful activities following his time in the service. I highly recommend this book. Colonel, USAF, Retired

I have this warm patriotic feeling that there are lots of Samuel Lassiters who learned how to engage in civic and family responsibilities the honest hard work way and lived to tell their stories. The difference is that this author had the long vision to create a legacy for his loved ones and their descendants. Reading his autobiographical story gave me the whole spectrum of emotions, and more importantly, I learned Sam's lessons without having to go mach 1 in an F-4 (not that I'd pass it up). This up close account is a lot about where personal principles reside and what happens when you jump the barbed wire. If you wonder how one man can speed through a career of honor and awe, read F-4 Phantom Crew Chief, the true story of how Sam Lassiter filled up his bucket list to overflowing. I'm grateful for the chance to have this book on my shelf, because my children and grandchildren can learn its lessons, too.
