I read "Minnie Lee" one morning when I was feeling particularly down. It has been difficult in the past recent years, as I've lost my mother, my father, my stepmother, my uncle and my cousin within a short time period. My family (siblings) are distant - both physically and emotionally. Taking a peek in to Minnie's life helped me to reach out to family and I started to write down memories that both my parents had shared with me over the years - and many of my own - to pass on to my grandsons when they get older. You never realize how important those memories are in linking one generation to another until they may be gone. Thank you, Sara, for reminding me of that. Sincerely, Shelley M. Anna

This is a review from a friend who read the book. A Review by Joyce Parker-Hyde Don't think I'm too weird-but I just finished reading 'Minnie Lee'. First I was saving it for my plane ride, I got part of it done-had to put it away (didn't want to start bawling in strange places). I then watched a few episodes on the history channel to get the feel of what she had lived through -we are so very removed from really really hard work and self sufficiency. By the time I got to her last days I could barely see through the welled up water in my eyes. I could see where you got all of your talents and closeness to nature and appreciation of everything! Thank you for remembering those old people who were her friends. I still like to hold books and turn pages gave me a chance to share a few historical nuggets with my grandson. Thank you so much for writing it and for sharing it, I hope a lot of people read it and think about who we really are and how we got to where we are and maybe-just maybe cut... More > back on the selfishness and pettiness that only serve to tear apart things that have been hard won through the literal blood sweat and tears of those who came before.
