Let me start off by saying this book will always, always have my recommendation. The interwoven plots of all the characters are magnificently done and left me turning pages well into the wee hours of the morning. And the characters in 'Monsters' are some of the most fleshed-out, unique people I have ever had the pleasure to read about. The plot is amazing but the characters are really where this story shines. It has everything from characters you love to character you love hating, and never once did I feel like skipping over a part of the story for fear of encountering a bland character. 'Monsters' is absolutely riveting, and if you haven't read it yet than you should. And if you have, then read it again!

I have become a huge fan girl of this novel, and I cannot wait for if there are more pieces in the works for this universe. It made me cry, it made angry, but most of all, it left me satisfied. It is a beautiful commentary on emotion, self-image, and even general ideas, and I absolutely love the subtle references!

One of the most important aspects of storytelling for me is ensuring that each character has their own voice. That's also something that many authors find difficult to pull off, but Sarah Dhue showed her mastery over it in Monsters. The chapters are short and fast-paced, turning to a different characters point-of-view with each one. It's easy to keep track of the large cast because of their distinct voices and I loved finding how all of their stories began to piece together. Dhue cleverly utilizes a supernatural setting to deliver a clear and significant message in how no man (or monster) should be judged upon who they are, but on what they have done.

I appreciated that this book was not what I expected. Monsters is a modern fantasy story of several monsterous individuals entangled in one another's lives. It's is the first novel that I've read by Sara and I found it to be a light-hearted slice of life story with plenty of room left in the end for sequels. I can't wait to read the next one.

Sarah drew me into this world where the definition of 'monster' is blurred. Her characters are so much like people in our world -- cruel, kind, power-seeking, content, cold, friendly, scarred by the past, excited about the future, disenchanted, hopeful, world-weary, and loving life. She toyed with my emotions. One chapter I was sympathizing with a little boy in the wrong place at the wrong time and hoping a villian would get everything he deserved in another. I could not wait for the next revelation as each character's story unfolded. Monsters is a book I will read again and again!
