"Nice One Mate!!" With her often biting humour and self-deprecating style, Sarah J. Harper successfully sheds the grandiose pretensions that characterise the modern-day gap year generation to produce an unashamedly funny and brutally honest depiction of life on the 21st century road. After all, it’s not many people who can say they’ve defied Maoist bandhs in conflict-ridden Nepal, survived gangland shootings in downtown New York, dined with Laotian royalty in Chiang Mai, witnessed witch doctors at work, trekked the Himalaya, eaten everything from snake to scorpion, contracted dengue fever and successfully dodged a tsunami, not to mention spent time working for the British Council in Germany, a medical NGO in Thailand, a language institute in China and now an evil American corporation in Eastern Europe (somehow still finding time to master four European languages and pick up a First Class Cambridge Honours Masters degree along the way) all by the tender age of 25 – and then... More > still relentlessly taken the p*ss out of it all in literary form at the end!! That said, I AM her best friend and she DID force me to write this; that and I already star in some of the early chapters of the book. Doesn’t make any of the above less true though.
