Early in 2012, Sarah Celio Krenk’s life changed forever. Prior to that point, she and her husband, Dan, had a good and happy life; she was the director of a life skills program serving people with emotional and developmental difficulties. On March 11, 2012, she suffered a ruptured aneurysm that almost claimed her life. She was rushed to the hospital. In their attempt to save her life, doctors rushed a surgical procedure called coiling. The effects were unpredictable—and disastrous. During surgery Sarah suffered from a cerebellar stroke, another life-threatening medical emergency. She survived, but the effects on her health and quality of life were devastating. In this personal narrative, Sarah tells her story and reflects on the challenges, frustrations, and joyful victories she experienced as she navigated the tidal waves of recovering from not one, but two life-threatening traumatic brain injuries. Let her story of strength and determination inspire you to your own... More > greatness.< Less

Jul 20, 2015This is a heart wrenching account of a brave woman's experience with an aneurysm. It provides a very detailed description of the actual medical emergency as well as its immediate and long-term effects. The author provides valuable insights to others who may find themselves on the same journey. What was most striking to me was the author's experience in dealing with her treatment by providers and not knowing what was reality or imagination. This book is also valuable to caretakers who may find it difficult helping and supporting their loved one. Her relationship with her husband changed during this period. She provides informative tools to help family and friends be as helpful as possible without burning out themselves.
Feb 4, 2014This book is great! Inspiring. Motivating. Amazing. Sarah...you are an inspiration. I can not believe the trials, tribulations and events you have had to endure. I can tell though that your spirit and attitude is so similar to when I had the opportunity to hang out with you :). I could not put the book down. You have always been so fun and lived life to the fullest and from reading your book I can tell you have not and will not let that stop you from living each day to the fullest! I will love to follow your blog and will keep you in my prayers each day. Keep on keeping on and getting a little better each day.
Jan 8, 2014Many psychologists argue that autobiographies can help those who are struggling or are in treatment. In addition to providing insight and concrete strategies, they instill hope for recovery. John C. Norcross suggests, “Reading a narrative helps normalize and universalize what the patient’s experiencing and can have far more powerful ramifications than just our words.” Sarah’s book is an honest, frank, and informative read describing the trials and tribulations of her road to recovery. I would recommend this book to individuals, families, and friends who have been impacted by such a trauma as a ruptured aneurysm. Sarah, you are an incredibly strong woman and an inspiration! Thanks for sharing your story.

Sarah has had an unbelievable journey beginning with a near death aneurym rupture, a life altering stroke, and an amazing recovery that can be described as absolutely incredible. Sarah is a true inspiration to anyone and I learned a lot by reading this book about the struggles and determination that she endured throughout her medical illness. As a family medicine physician, I would recommend this to any patient with or without an illness. Sarah's story puts life into perspective in so many ways, we are not guaranteed tomorrow, we can never give up hope, miracles do happen, prayers can be answered, we are stronger than we think, and friends and family can make a world of difference in our lives.....This is a quick read that I encourage you to take the time to explore. Even while traveling a horribly rocky challenging road, Sarah has maintained her sense of humor... More > and it is scattered throughout this book. I am honored to be her friend and anyone that has had the opportunity to know her I am certain feels the same way. She is in angel on this earth and her life and story is a true blessing to each and every one of us.
