Founded in 2005, 1718 a New Orleans Reading series is a student-run literary society that is jointly run by Tulane University, Loyola University of New Orleans, and University of New Orleans. 1718 aims to increase networking between students attending Loyola, Tulane, and the University of New Orleans, offer student writers the opportunity to showcase their work, help expand students’ awareness of the literary culture of New Orleans, and bring in talented, published writers for a professional, monthly reading series.
Each month, the reading series features one published author as a “Featured Reader” as well as two or three “Student Readers” from a combination of Tulane, Loyola, or UNO. These readings are on the first Tuesday of each month during the academic year, at 7pm at the Columns Hotel on St. Charles.
The following, is a compilation of works read by the student readers during the 2013-2014 academic year.
