I have mixed feelings about this book. At the start I really enjoyed it and thought some of the anecdotes were funny and got a real feeling for who the author was. However, as I got further through the book, I found the absence of any dialogue tiring and dull. There were also too many characters being constantly introduced and hardly any of them were given any character development. I get the feeling that when the author started out he had a direction for the story, but lost it somewhere through the book. After about three quarters of the way through the book, it descended into self-serving, indulgent nonsense which centred solely around the feelings for one guy, the issue being that the reader has no idea what this guy is like and consequently, dosen't really care if he ends up with him or not. What started as a promising book, sadly finished as drivel.
I really enjoyed reading this book even though i have been in the same boat being gay and 30 odd. It gave me insight into what others feel and get upto i could not put the book down once i started reading it thankyou Sean
This was riddled with typos. It's a shame the proofreader didn't pick up on them. After a while they just started to irritate me so much I couldn't read on. Call me a pedant if you will but I just expected something a little more professional
Although not being personally gay, thirty something nor male, I was left wondering what this book would deliver for me. However what I found was a sensitive and down right honest portrayal of a guy looking for "Mr Right". Through Johnny's ups and downs in life, I ended really feeling for the guy, as he goes from one disaster to the next. All he wants is to love someone, be loved and find satisfaction from life...isn't that what most of us want and need, despite sexual persuasion??! This was an easy to read book that I was able to gobble up in no time; you can put it down and pick up (as it's in diary/daily format), fitting in around kids, pets, train, bus etc. The ending left me 'wondering', so ready for the next installment!
