"From a New Fan" I have seen Rizzo in the Salt Lake City Weekly, maybe once a month or whenever I pick up a copy. Sometimes I laugh, other times I scratch my head and smirk. Why does Bill have a trunkful of guns? Who is that disembodied head that visits Riz in the shower? How come I feel like I'm out of the loop? When I saw this collection available, I purchased a copy. Man, let me tell you-- I FINALLY GET IT. Rizzo is not single episode twaddle, like Garfield. This is a rich, multi-layered comic strip series that deserves to be appreciated in serial form. I understand it all. I understand why Bill has those guns in the trunk. I know who the disembodied head is. (Or, more precisely; I know who THEY ARE.) And I'm laughing myself silly. Very few comic strip characters achieve this much depth in their first year. Well done, Messrs. Simmons & Riseley. Well done, indeed.
