More > knowledge, Rizal sent, among others, specimens of shells to a museum in Dresden, particularly the Anthropological and Ethnographical Museum. Rizal received no money for the specimens, but instead got scientific books, magazines and surgical instruments which he needed in Dapitan. In October 1893 for instance, he sent Director A.B. Meyer of the Anthropological and Ethnographic Museum of Dresden more than 25 species of seashells. In subsequent months, he sent more specimens for the museum. This book discusses what those shells were and shows full-color photographs and descriptions of the same.< Less

He was formerly one of the Science Education Specialists at the University of the Philippines – Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development (now National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development). Earlier in 1998, Prof. Fadul advised the National Historical Institute that the list in the letter dated 26 October 1894 by Rizal in Epistolario Rizalino No. 124 (Kalaw, 1961) is not a list of butterflies but of sea shells. However, the error continued to spread through the years, prompting him to publish his research on those specimens that Rizal sent and/or received from European entomologists.< Less
