Our Government confiscated 126 farms nearby, and quickly erected two new defense plants, the Marion Engineer Depot, that later housed 400 German Prisoners of War and the Scioto Ordnance Plant, where bombs were produced. During this time, the author’s brother, Bob a U.S. Navy pilot, received three Air Medals for his participation in nine combat missions over enemy territory. He retired as Lieutenant Commander 22 years later and took a civilian position in the Pentagon. World War II ended August 14, 1945.< Less
