Slot Car Magazine - September 2018 Issue 45 By Marc Abbott & Ric Woods
eBook (PDF): $1.69
I’ve had a very varied time on the driving front since we last were with you, pounding round the test track with two Carrera cars, the latest Thunderslot McLaren and finally a Flyslot... More > truck… It did bring home to me how lucky we are to be living in an era where the quality of slot cars is the best it has ever been. From the flawless tampo work on the Carrera duo to the brilliant performance of the Thunderslot M6, we are a million miles away from where we were twenty years ago. The best thing is that no longer do you have to choose between a car that will look good but can barely stagger round the track or a car that will go well but has the looks only its mother could love. We (OK, make that I) will always find something to moan about, of course, such as Gulf liveries being slapped on all sorts of inapplicable vehicles purely because they make money, but generally speaking we’re very well off at the moment. Even that Fly 917LH horror is starting to fade from the memory… almost.< Less

You could be forgiven for thinking that you are seeing double with this issue, with two Peugeots, two C-types, two Capris to win, two F1 cars getting new chassis, but don’t worry, it’s... More > only our way of getting you prepared for the excesses of the Festive Season. We also feature more new models than usual, so if any take your fancy you can drop subtle hints to any loved ones by leaving the magazine open at the relevant page for them to see, thus solving the dilemma of what to buy you for Christmas. Anyway, there are tons of lovely things in here; I always say there’s something for everybody and of course there isn’t, particularly if you are one of those people who hates slot cars. But who cares about them, eh? Have a good read and we’ll see you again in the New Year. All our best wishes from the gang and thanks for being with us.< Less
Slot Car Magazine – March 2018 By Marc Abbott & Ric Woods
eBook (PDF): $1.78
I can’t really think of anything to have a moan about this time; that’s a bit annoying in itself, of course, because part of the fun (so-called) of growing old is the fact that you get to... More > constantly complain about stuff. Anyway, I thought I’d indulge in a spot of boasting instead. In the one hundred or so years it seems like we have being doing this, I don’t think we have ever quite managed this range of subjects. We have three scales (or more accurately four – you’ll see what I mean), scenery, history, a home layout, a new track system, a car build, new cars AND digital! Not forgetting a fab competition that apparently your pet goldfish can enter and the conclusion of the Dilworth murder mystery that we annoyingly interrupted for the January Christmas special! If that lot doesn’t help you recover from the loss of grid girls in Formula One, nothing will. Many years ago, Julie Andrews advised us to ‘start at the very beginning, a very good place to start’. I’ll shut up now and let you do just that.< Less

In the Northern Hemisphere at least, things are warming up, slot-besotted Brits are discarding their coats as they head up into the attic to play, you can no longer still see your breath in the club... More > room after eight o’clock on a race night. The one event in the year that we look forward to more than Christmas – Gaydon – is only a couple of months away. Some of us have even started smiling again. Adventures in rubber and sponge, an HO head-to-head, Hub on Heat for Hire, Alfas and anticlockwise addicts all add up to a nicely varied issue, I think. Come on, there must be something in there you like! As I was writing this, news came through of the passing of another racing hero. As a motor sport enthusiast of many years, I must admit that I’m finding it impossible to sum up John Surtees in a few words; so many facets, so many achievements. Let’s just say there will never be another quite like him. Rest in Peace, sir.< Less

Please forgive me if I say an additional “hello” to any new readers of our magazine. We’ve just been told our sales are on the increase, so good to have you along. Where have you... More > been all this time? I calculated the other day that our July issue will be our 50th! I remember telling my girlfriend at the time “Don’t worry, it will probably fizzle out after three issues.” As it turned out, I was the one who fizzled, being dumped after issue number nineteen. Anyway, I’d better say something constructive, or people will think I’ve got writer’s block. Three scales in this one, which I always like. And two articles about Tyrrell F1 cars – a bit random, but just the way it goes sometimes. AND you can win an SRC Capri! If you’re our new reader, this isn’t a special edition just to tempt you in, it’s usually this good!< Less
Slot Car Magazine - July 2019 Issue 50 By Marc Abbott & Ric Woods
eBook (PDF): $1.64
It’s inevitable, I suppose, that parallels are already being drawn between our 50th issue and the 50th anniversary of the first landing on the Moon. Indeed, many people questioned whether the... More > Moon landings were of any value at all. They did that with our magazine as well, but at least NASA had the good sense to stop in 1972. Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins went down in history. Abbott and Woods almost certainly won’t, but we all had a lot of clever people working away to help us get the glory. (This is actually making a bit more sense than I thought it would. Wonders never cease.) The contributors make this magazine. It wouldn’t have got off the ground without them. We will never forget that. A special mention must go to Andy Player, who has been with us since issue number one. I’ve never asked, but I wonder if he thought it would only last a couple of months as well? Also to John Dilworth, who has been baffling the world of slots since issue two. Thank you so much.< Less

We have a bumper issue this time. I’ll not list all the items we have managed to include for your entertainment – after all, there’s a list of contents just over there – but... More > let’s just say that if you don’t find something you like, you were probably expecting a magazine about mobile gambling machines… We’ve gone and passed another anniversary, probably a sign more of our own bloody-mindedness rather than any enduring popularity, but I do want to say a very sincere thanks to all of those brilliant people who have filled these pages with great slot-based features. Please can you keep doing so? Right, you’ll be wanting to look at the other pages now. If you do happen to come across us at any random slot car-based event in May, do come and say hello. And tell us we’re great. And buy more copies of the magazine.< Less

Here we are again, peering expectantly into the abyss of another new year. One of the positives to come out of the last year has been the continuing resurgence in Classic F1 interest. The Policar... More > range has been a hit to the point where racing series are being put together for the cars. In the meantime, the 3D-printed chassis manufacturers have been giving new life to older cars. SRC is set to make its McLaren M23 ever more raceable too. Meanwhile, the Thunderslot McLaren M6B was one of my favourite drives of the year and the company with the best attitude must surely be SRC, whose honesty and determination to get things right has been a revelation. We tested our first Carrera cars too and I must admit that these exceeded my expectations – good fun without magnets. I’m also going to give a word of thanks to our contributors. Without these people, we wouldn’t have a magazine, it’s as simple as that. Please don’t stop! So bring on 2019.< Less
