As the floodwaters rose, he and his family were forced to climb out of a second-floor window and into a rowboat. They lost everything. They relocated to Price Hill, which was the ideal place for a young Catholic boy to grow up. Almost all of the neighborhood kids attended St. Lawrence School, and there was a ball game nearly every day. In the fourth grade, Burger began taking piano lessons with another boy in his class, but while the lessons were only twenty-five cents for a half hour, he never paid attention—and the teacher probably told his mom she was wasting her money.< Less
