He then trained as a missionary with the Church Missionary Society (C.M.S) in England and was assigned to Foochow in South China. He landed there in 1862 and successfully pursued his missionary work until he died in 1915. John married and had six children. He was made Archdeacon in 1887 and Vice-President of the C.M.S in 1910. We have produced a number of books that give an insight into aspects of his work and his family. This book contains accounts of the “Wu-Shih-Shan” affair and trial of 1879.< Less
