The subject matter is the exploration of a chaotic and dangerous childhood which began when her father returned from war. The abusive environment began at 17 months of age. I went on a retreat with Gabor Mate, hired a local counselor, went to AA meetings, wrote in my journal, meditated, prayed for healing and I grieved. I grieved for the war zone infancy; the pain of broken bones and a broken heart; the realization that I never had the innocent time that others speak of in their early years. Once, in a vision I saw my family as a river. The river bed was coming down the side of a mountain with a gradual slope. I stood in it, downstream. I stood up to my ankles in the flow. I blessed all of those ancestors who had had their hearts broken and did not know how to heal or how to love. I sent my compassion back against the flow. And I cried for all of us. It has been a busy year.< Less
