The 1647 Westminster Confession of Faith By C. Matthew McMahon et al.
Paperback: $12.99
Prints in 3-5 business days
This volume is the original 1647 version of the Westminster Confession of Faith. The Confession is proved by Scripture using the Authorized Version (KJV) as published with those proofs in 1647-49.... More > The Scripture proofs are cited in full. The Westminster Assembly of 1643 to 1649 produced three documents of lasting value to the Church: The Westminster Confession of Faith, The Larger Catechism, and the Shorter Catechism. Since then the Confession has become the greatest historical and biblical explanation of Christian doctrine and practice in the church of Jesus Christ. Though the Christian Church takes the whole Word of God alone as her only rule of faith, she must also frame and promote a statement of what she understands the Word of God to teach. This Confession is an ideal way to give structure to the discipling of new believers, and enhancing the biblical understanding of professing Christians.< Less

More > Palmer to produce a draft of the Larger Catechism. Robert Baillie and other Scottish delegates found the work disappointing. In December 1643 a committee was formed to write the Catechism. In January 1647 the Assembly gave up writing one catechism and split it into two. The Westminster Shorter Catechism was to be "easier to read and concise for beginners" and the Larger Catechism was to be "more exact and comprehensive". The Catechism was completed by the Westminster Assembly in 1647. It was then adopted by the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1648 and (with modifications relating to the civil magistrate) by the Presbyterian Synod of New York and Philadelphia in 1788.< Less

More > government during the time of the Westminster Assembly were written and published. Daniel Cawdrey was among the most able writers in defense of Presbyterial Government.
