If they got grade 7 math, reading and writing down and they're self-motivated, let them go. See where their genius takes them. Only a few children are intrinsically motivated enough to control their own education without degenerating into wanting to be a pop star or beauty contest queen. Kant's political teaching may be summarized in a phrase: republican government and international organization. In more characteristically Kantian terms, it is doctrine of the state based upon the law... More > (Rechtsstaat) and of eternal peace. Indeed, in each of these formulations, both terms express the same idea: that of legal constitution or of "peace through law." ... Taken simply by itself, Kant's political philosophy, being essentially a legal doctrine, rejects by definition the opposition between moral education and the play of passions as alternate foundations for social life. The state is defined as the union of men under law. The state rightly so called is constituted by laws which are necessary a priori because they flow from the very concept of law. A regime can be judged by no other criteria nor be assigned any other functions, than those proper to the lawful order as such. -History of Political Philosophy, edited by Leo Strauss and Joseph Cropsey, The University of Chicago Press< Less

Two powerful approaches to educational leadership have in recent years been competing for the heart and soul of educational leadership preparation. The first, the accountability approach, was originally imposed on PK-12 education by national and state governments, and has since been inexorably making its way into university-based leadership preparation. Some argue that the accountability approach actually is quite compatible with the mainstream or conventional educational leadership of the past, because, like mainstream leadership, it is characterized by external control, technical rationality, and maintenance of the status quo.< Less
