More > Mission", as it was originally called, had its headquarters in Urmia and was to last until the exodus of the Assyrians from their homelands in Persia and Turkey in 1918 during World War I. This book reproduces three publications of the American Mission press in Urmia. They are somewhat unique and certainly quite scarce. The first and third items are complete. Unfortunately the second item is missing two pages. 1. Sermon on the Death of Mr. Perkins by Deacon Yonan of Ada. 2. In Memory of Rev. He deemed his first account of the mission, “A Residence of Eight Years in Persia among the Nestorian Christians” (published in 1843) too large to be updated and “adapted to the railroad and telegraph spirit and taste of the present day”. Consequently he published this shorter volume in 1861 to keep the work of the mission before the eyes of the American reading public of the time. Perkins returned and served in Urmia until August 1869.< Less

It is to be illustrated beyond any volume we have yet published…” The original purpose of the Mission was to raise the spiritual and educational level of the Assyrians so that they could serve as missionaries to their Muslim neighbors. After completing his education in the United States,... More > William joined the Mission in Persia in 1892. He became head of the mission in 1904. This biography, written by his wife, provides detailed first hand accounts of the heroic efforts on the part of Shedd and others to save the lives of Assyrians during the massacres of 1915 and to help them defend themselves against their enemies during the tragic events leading to their exodus from Urmia in 1918. Particularly important and moving is the account of that exodus in which so many Assyrians lost their lives. Shedd proved himself to be a true friend of the Assyrians by choosing to accompany them on their flight and share in their sufferings. He died from Cholera on the way at Sain Kala in 1918.< Less
