There she met Heniek [Henry]. Henry grew up in Pabianice Poland. When the Nazis invaded, he survived the Ghettos of Pabianice and Lodz and the concentration camps in Auschwitz-Birkenau, Braunschweig, Ravensbruch and Wobblin. After liberation by the Americans he travelled back home and then by illegal boat as part of the Aliah Bet Movement to Haifa where he was arrested and interned into Atlit. So began a courtship and a journey to re-establish a normal life and family, first in Israel then in Australia. Danka and Henry now have three sons, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
