More > 4-year-old boy, referred to as Noah. A variety of sensory-based materials were explored in individual half hour treatment sessions. Response art was implemented as a form of visual empathy. The client’s artworks were replicated after each session. Results suggested that responsive art making was a way for the therapist to connect with the client in an embodied manner. Results also proposed that sensory qualities of the art were of more interest to the child than insight and imagery. Findings from this study promote future research in the field of art therapy and autism and suggest that visual response art can be a way to communicate with clients who struggle to express themselves verbally.< Less
