Mode choice does not significantly impact consumer spending at establishments surveyed when we consider demographics and socioeconomics. When controlling for trip frequency, average monthly expenditures by mode reveal that bicyclists, transit users and pedestrians are competitive consumers and, for all businesses except supermarkets, spend more on average than those who drive. Residential and employment density, proximity to rail transit, and the amount of car and bicycle parking are all important in explaining the use of non-automobile modes. Bike parking and bike corrals are significant predictors of bike mode share at an establishment.< Less

There are well over 100 routes in all three books starting with shorter rides (from 10 miles) in the first volume which then lengthened over the years (to centuries) as their experience and intensity in cycling increased. There are rides called “Northeast”, “Conestoga Valley View”, “Struble Lake”, “Lititz”, “Blackbird Landing”, “Dover and Delaware Dutch”, and the list goes on and on. With their permission, these volumes are being republished. We are extremely grateful for their contribution to cycling over the years, and we are delighted that their efforts can be shared and enjoyed by many current and future WCBC members for many more decades to come.< Less
