‘Living in the past. It’s always said pejoratively, as if the past is necessarily inferior to the future, or at any rate less important; nobody’s ever condemned for looking... More > forward, only back. But the truth is that we live in the past, whether we like it or not. That’s where our life takes shape. Somewhere ahead, however near or far, is the end. But behind, shrouded in clouds of forgetting, lies the beginning’. This book about Scarborough IS unashamedly about looking back from the first mention of Scarborough in 8000 BC to the present day. It is not a formal history; rather a miscellany of interesting facts culled from many sources stretching back over the years.< Less
I'VE STARTED, SO I'LL FINISH... By David Fowler
Paperback: $17.75
Ships in 3-5 business days.
Research for this memoir started 21 years ago when I first retired.I made various attempts but other interests intervened - I am a Gemini!, and so it went on over many years. The title... More > ‘I’ve started so I’ll finish…’, therefore seems very appropriate. This book is light hearted and humorous. As well as being my memoir it is also part travelogue, part social history together with a miscellany of other happenings, doings and anecdotes, which occurred throughout my lifetime. I am a Scarborian and was educated at Scarborough High School for Boys. After National Service, then 39 years in banking, I retired back to my home town, Scarborough. Previous books are ‘God Bless the Prince of Wales, National Service Elvis and Me!’, ‘Why Should England Tremble?’, ‘Scarborough Snippets’, and ‘The Clock Cafe Story'. My interests are many including wandering down the cliffs beyond Scarborough’s Spa to the Clock Cafe which has stupendous views, and indulging in their lemon meringue pie which must be the best for miles around.< Less
