When he hear that she intends to go with her husband-to-be, Terry Griffith, on a honeymoon to Utah, Carl becomes fearful that during that trip she might convert to Mormonism. Mica's father begs her not to make the trip. She goes on it anyway, and when she returns from Utah, her dad becomes so furious that he makes clear that for her to get back on speaking terms with him, she must leave her new husband. Mica refuses to give in to that demand, thus starting a long feud with Carl. While that feud is going on, American becomes a world power through her going to war with Spain over Cuba. When the war ends with the US having an empire, concerns are raised America will no longer be a free country. Regardless of those worries, she can't revert to being the nation that she was before 1898.< Less
