This research seminar examined how historic and contemporary attempts to alter expressions in defining Mediterraneanity provide a new sense of scalar dimensions of nation state,... More > city, region/micro-region, and hinterlands. We will investigate the synthecity of the “Medi-terranean”6 as a deterritorialized (inter)-regional synthesis and try to find answers whether or not the Mediterranean is radically being transformed by the very means that make it? In this seminar we read seminal texts and looked at visionary projects such as Herman Soergel’s Atlantropa, Nicolas Sarkozy’s plans for a Mediterranean Union, OMA’s Roadmap 2050, urban revolutions from Tahrir to Taksim Square, and developed research arguing that the future of the Mediterranean space, its flux boundaries, and the constant state of crisis are a locus of innovation.< Less
