Two control approaches are introduced, namely a PID control and an adaptive control based on adaptive hysteresis compensation. They are able to handle the presence of hysteresis in the input-output characteristic. The adaptive approach also handles the temperature-dependent behaviour of the nonlinearity. Experimental results performed on several actuator prototypes demonstrate the effectiveness of the control approaches presented here.< Less
