More > Henry Purnell, Jacob Purnell, and Thomas Whatley who all immigrated from Trowbridge to Rockville, Connecticut. It includes enlarged photos from the history as well as additional photos. Shem was the son of James Purnell and Ann Beaven, but was raised by his aunt Elizabeth Alder. Both Ann and Elizabeth were daughters of Job Beaven and Jane Keats. Shem joined the LDS Church in Cheltenham, England and came to America with his cousin Alfred Alder. He married Elizabeth Mills in St. Louis and they crossed the plains to Utah in 1853 with their daughter Elizabeth Ann. Shem and Elizabeth were divorced and Shem then married Louisa Driggs. They had four children: Ernest Alphreda, Ida Evaline, Anna Jane, and Hannah Marie. Shem was one of the first settlers of Kaysville, Utah and Franklin, Idaho and was a blacksmith by trade.< Less
