He served as a patriot soldier and officer in that conflict as a member of the Guilford militia and acquired grants for several large tracts of land in the aftermath of the war in the area of Rockingham county. He died in about 1787 leaving a widow, Sariah, and probably a large family. He was the ancestor of many of the Lewises whom continued to reside in the surrounding areas of North Carolina and Virginia.< Less
