More > city of Noida. General Lake established a residency at Delhi with Sir David Ochterlony as its first resident and Chief Commissioner. Following the British conquest, there was an impression that the population of the city was steadily increasing. In 1806, Lord Lake and others were convinced that there was a definite increase in the population and attributed it to the novelty of a regime of comfort, security and impartial justice. Census reports from 1833 to 1853 showed a rise in population from 131,000 to 151,000. Most of the population was concentrated around the Chandni Chowk and Faiz Bazaar region of Daryaganj. WHILE I feel conscious that most of the contents of those Letters will be interesting chiefly to American readers, yet I may indulge the hope that the fact of their being the first production of a... More > Fugitive Slave as a history of travels may carry with them novelty enough to secure for them, to some extent, the attention of the reading public of Great Britain. Most of the letters were written for the private perusal of a few personal friends in America; some were contributed to Fredrick Douglass' Paper, a journal published in the United States. In a printed circular sent some weeks since to some of my friends, asking subscriptions to this volume, I stated the reasons for its publication: these need not be repeated here. To those who so promptly and kindly responded to that appeal, I tender my most sincere thanks.< Less

This book is the result of a collaboration between Victor Stabin and the eighth grade students and faculty at The LB Morris School in Jim Thorpe, PA. This unique ABC book was inspired by Victor... More > Stabin’s book, Daedal Doodle. The "Daedal Doodle Curriculum" combines sourcing the dictionary for unusual words to create alliterations that students then illustrate. As they’re looking for words to illustrate, they’re simultaneously learning vocabulary. This form of arts integration engages students while linking the arts with core curriculum. The novelty of reading the dictionary to source words for drawing can be an important process in bridging art and language, ostensibly ending the traditional, but rigid, separation of the arts from basic education and thereby creating a fluid and creative mind. This book showcases the LB Morris students' alliterative, pictorial word inventions.< Less
William Bouguereau: 137 Paintings and Drawings By Maria Tsaneva
eBook (ePub): $1.99
William Bouguereau was a follower of classical art and had no wish for everything like novelty or the avant-garde. His sense of idealism was his guiding principle, regarding the ugly as worthless for... More > representation. A skilled craftsman and master of human anatomy, he utilized a delicate palette and glorious light to sensitively capture nuances of personality and mood, vibrantly bringing the soul and spirit of his subjects to life. Bouguereau has left a large number of works and he is undoubtedly a key figure in 19th century French art. Although his work was widely collected by the English and more especially by the Americans in his lifetime, Bouguereau’s reputation in France was more indistinct—indeed quite low—in his later years. He remained a hard supporter of the academic training system at a time when it was criticized for stifling originality and nurturing mediocrity.< Less

This collection of verse transports the reader through seas of double meanings, suggestiveness, intimate views of personal behavior, satire, and elusive love. It parallels the seriousness of Poe with... More > parodies of form evoking the terror of The Raven, and with an air of levity, these portray the frustrations of a self-storage center manager in The Craven, and a language professor in The Maven, both of which follow the style and form of the insuperable E. A. Poe. A look at the innocence of alternate sexuality and the novelty of youthful personal interaction is portrayed in The Young and the Gay which itself expresses an attitude about social views of human emotion without taking a stand. It leaves the perception up to the reader to come to any conclusions. A Goose in the Shower is a playful presentation of the fads and foibles of human sexual behavior, and it objectively observes the patterns of courtship in many of the venues where it is least expected to be observed.< Less
