Celle des Tagals (Tagálog) de Luçon est le baybáyin. C’est une sorte de sténographie, car elle ne permet pas de noter les consonnes de fermeture. Par exemple, it-lóg “œuf” s’écrivait i-lu, comme i-lóng “nez” et í-log “rivière”. Si l’auteur d’un texte pouvait facilement le relire, en revanche un tiers devait faire un sérieux effort pour le déchiffrer et souvent n’y parvenait pas. En raison de cette carence, le baybáyin fut rapidement supplanté par l’alphabet latin au cours du Dix-Septième Siècle. Il est en train de faire une réapparition timide dans la diaspora philippine émigrée aux États Unis d’Amérique, où il est surtout utilisé pour créer des motifs décoratifs et des tatouages dans un esprit d’identification communautaire et d’expression de leur philippinité.< Less
