It is a series of episodes in which a wandering narrator is tricked by a mysterious charlatan. On Loving God By Clairvaux St. Bernard of
eBook (ePub): $2.99
What is love? In his text On Loving God, St. Bernard surveys the four types of love that Christians experience as they grow in their relationship with God: loving one's self, selfish love, loving God... More > as God, and loving one's self in God. St. Bernard reminds us that not only did God give us life, but He gave us Himself. For indeed, "God deserves to be loved very much, yea, boundlessly, because He loved us first, He infinite and we nothing, loved us, miserable sinners, with a love so great and so free." St. Bernard reminds us that we are indebted to God for his love and His sacrifice. Not only should we love God because it is what He deserves, but also because loving God does not go without reward. The Lord rewards those who love Him with the blessed state of the heavenly Fatherland, where sorrow and sadness cannot enter. St. Bernard's medieval prose is poetic and full of clever imagery. His work is as beautiful as it is knowledgeable. -Emmalon Davis, CCEL Staff Writer< Less

This color illustrated 8.25x10.75 hardcover edition contains the ornamented crème de la crème of my Omaresque style quatrains, as selected from the larger volume of ‘Austin's... More > Rubaiyat’. These are not translations, but my own inventions. Prologue: Inspired by Omar, I have endeavored to capture his spirit for more modern times, although I have surely been influenced by Edward FitzGerald’s translated gems. There is a companion prose version, ‘The Triumph of Life, Love, and Being’, in which a loving couple take a long, picaresque journey through the countryside to explore the joys and follies of the human condition, living out the quatrains. The Discovery: Long before I’d ever heard of Omar Khayyàm, I had come to some of the same conclusions as had he, or so my friend told me one day, saying that I was already living out and proving Omar’s philosophy. Illuminations: A few of the quatrains were obtained from my other poetry books, which poems in their full text can be found in ‘Poetic Epics’.< Less
