In 1996, Gwen Angulalik, Margo Kadlun-Jones, and linguist Betty Harnum, taught Inuinnaqtun at Nunavut Arctic College in Cambridge Bay. To teach the course, they adapted Kangiryuarmiut Uqauhingita... More > Numiktittitdjutingit, a dictionary produced for a similar dialect in Holman Island, by Ronald Lowe and others on behalf of the Committee for Original Peoples’ Entitlement in 1983. The need for an Inuinnaqtun dictionary that reflected the local dialect was soon realized. As a team, Gwen, Margo, and Betty revised the dictionary with elders Mabel Ekvana Angulalik, who grew up in the Chantry Inlet, Perry River, and Gjoa Haven area, and Frank Analok, who was raised in the Ikpigjuaq area near Cambridge Bay. In 2012, Nunavut Arctic College received funding from Canadian Heritage, through the Aboriginal Languages Initiative, to reprint this dictionary. Inhabit Media Inc. has published this dictionary on behalf of Nunavut Arctic College.< Less
