For the purposes of efficiently and effectively assuring allies and deterring adversaries in Europe and on the Korean Peninsula, the Army’s force posture is out of balance today, with... More > insufficient units and Soldiers stationed overseas. Since the end of the Cold War—during which hundreds of thousands of Soldiers were stationed overseas—the pendulum has swung too far in the direction of a U.S.-stationed Army, yielding an over-reliance on rotational deployments for continuous heel-to-toe presence to achieve deterrence and assurance effectively and at reasonable, sustainable cost. The preceding assessment is the result of a 10-month study examining the costs and benefits—defined broadly—of rotational deployments versus forward stationing. Not all of the available quantitative and qualitative data point in the same direction. There are indeed a myriad of sometimes conflicting costs and benefits that must be considered in determining whether and how U.S. Army posture has become unbalanced and what to do about it.< Less

Taking up the work started in earnest by literary figure William Barnes, the great proponent of Anglo-Saxon English, and hearkening unto the nostalgic longings of so many great English writers—... More > Tolkien, Gerard Manly Hopkins and Seanus Heaney— for a fore-1066 English, this translation of Darwin’s groundbreaking work On the Origin of Species is written in what is known today as Anglish— a type of English that uses more fully words of Anglo-Saxon and Germanic roots, resurrects old, forgotten words of Anglo-Saxon, and coins new words from English’s Germanic roots to replace English words of Latin and Greek outspring. This lessens the coldness, and detached intellectualness, and sheer foreignness of English in its Latin and Greek vocabulary, and makes our tongue more homely and welcoming, more English-sounding, more true to the core of English and to its forbearer, Anglo-Saxon— that wonderful Germanic tongue so seldom studied, so too often ignored, and so too little known.< Less
