More > recommended this to try and read. In that case, you know what you are getting and my description is not going to add anything to the discussion. If you are not family or friend then this is great and you should buy it. Really, I have been told it is better than Moby Dick and depending on your opinion that is really saying something, especially if you are a whaling fanatic.< Less

Semantic Stalagmites By Derek Lee

In the cavern will be found all the colours of the Earth and formations that might inspire, but, unless an explorer enters the cavern, will they really exist? There is an interesting parallel... More > between the reductive process of writing certain kinds of modern poetry and the approach taken by the sculptor, Alberto Giacometti, to his work. Giacometti reduced the form of his human subject to an absolute minimum, whilst somehow managing to maximise its existential reality; perhaps as a result of the increased isolation in the expanded, surrounding, three-dimensional void. It is almost as if the otherwise voluminous, fleshy, sculptural form had been shrunk and reduced to the elongated, yet intense, state of a skeletal armature; but not one lacking human qualities, even though some of the final forms were not unlike stalagmites. If it is possible to do the same with written work, then perhaps such an approach can be adopted to bring about a similar kind of appreciation of what it means to be human. ̵< Less

This book shows how to capitalize on Information Theory concepts to obtain an experimental measure of semantic meaning. This applies to artificial and natural languages alike. The basic approach is... More > to study a 'protolanguage' as a fundamental block of languages. The book then deals with internal representation of meaning, artificial speakers and the problem of scaling up to natural languages.< Less
Semantic Modeling In Formal English By Dr. Ir. Andries Van Renssen

Semantic Modeling in Formal English describes how information can be modeled in a system independent way, by using standardized formalized English. This way of modeling enables universal data... More > exchange and interoperability of systems by expressing information, knowledge and requirements in a human as well as computer interpretable way. That is done by creating semantic information models that include meaning as well as context. The resulting expressions are unambiguous and system independent. The book also describes the Gellish expression format for storage and exchange of information. Formal English is a standardized structured subset of natural English. Semantic Modeling describes how Formal English is defined and how information models can be composed and how they can be interpreted. It also provides a basis for the creation of universal semantic databases. This enables reduction of costs for data conversion and misinterpretation and speeds up data communication and data integration processes.< Less

This book presents information discovery services using the semantic and social technologies, and the prototype implementation of a semantic digital library that answers these requirements.
