A Theological debate, occasioned by a book lately written by Mr. Daniel Williams, entitled, Gospel Truth Stated & Vindicated; Unwarily Commended and Subscribed by some divines. Mr. Chauncy,... More > acting on the behalf, and in the person of, one Doctor Tobias Crisp, whose sermons have been ransacked - viciously rent and torn asunder by men whose poisoned minds have been directed to view the message of the pure Gospel of Grace through the spectacles of the Law; in these spiritual conversations not only vindicates, but also attempts to set forth the glorious Gospel of Christ, in all its assimilating truth, as a pure declaration of free & sovereign grace, in the free proclamation of an accomplished redemption through the sole merit, righteousness, and death of the LORD JESUS CHRIST. “For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse.” Gal.3:10. “And the law is not of faith.” Gal.3:12. “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth.” Rom.10:4.< Less
The Redeemer's Glory Unveiled By Samuel Stockell

THE REDEEMER’S GLORY UNVEILED OR THE EXCELLENCY OF CHRIST VINDICATED IN THE ANTIQUITY OF HIS PERSON AS GOD-MAN, before the World began. Though personally differing from Mr. Stockell, {not so... More > much in disagreement, as more from sheer incomprehension, and a sense of caution from that which our mind is not entirely able to ascertain from the Scriptures of Truth,} from his views regarding the preexistence of Christ’s human soul, a view which Mr. Joseph Hussey, {his ‘father’ in the faith,} firmly advocated before him; nevertheless, we find in this treatise much that engages the thoughts unto a heavenly contemplation of the glories of the Redeemer. This important contribution to the written Annals of Free & Sovereign Grace should not {according to our humble estimation} lay buried in the rubble of so-called ‘Church History,’ from whence it would never be extracted by those {Church Historians & Theology Professors} that would style themselves the guardians of our faith.< Less

SPARKLES OF GLORY, or some beams of the Morning-Star; wherein are many discoveries as to truth, and peace, to the establishment, and pure enlargement of a Christian in Spirit & Truth. Printed in... More > 1647. John Saltmarsh, 1612-1647, studied at Magdalene College, Cambridge. Around 1643 he began to voice his fundamental opposition to all empty forms of the Established Church, having given up his living at Heslerton because of his principles against tithe-taking. Early in 1645, he took appointment as Rector of Brasted, in Kent, but refused the income. In the last three years of his life Saltmarsh established himself in positions that made him a favorite target of the Presbyterian supporters who wanted nothing more but to see him imprisoned. He became known as a vigorous advocate of religious toleration and liberty of conscience, of Free and Sovereign Grace, and a loyal supporter of Cromwell’s New Model Army. About June 1646 Saltmarsh became an Army Chaplain to the forces of General Fairfax.< Less

More > Assertors of Conditional Justification; wherein also, the Absoluteness of the New Covenant is proved, and the Arguments against it are disproved. “For the present, I shall only say, that there being too great evidence of very welcome entertainment, and acceptance, given by many to an almost pure Socinian Justification and Exposition of the Covenant of Grace. All solid, learned, sober, endeavors, for the Vindication of the Absoluteness, Freedom, Independency, and Preeminence of that Grace in Jesus Christ, whereby we are saved, will doubtless find acceptance with the Children of Gospel-Wisdom, and all that love the glory of Him that bought us. Amongst such Labors and Endeavors I commend to thy consideration, the ensuing Treatise, and commit thee to the Lord.” John Owen, Westminster, Nov.7, 1653.< Less
A Vindication of the Gospel By Robert Lancaster

When Tobias Crisp died of smallpox on Feb.27, 1643, at the early age of 42, his friend Robert Lancaster immediately published his sermons, which upon their arrival were soon met with fierce... More > opposition by those who mingled Law with Gospel. Sadly, such a legalization of the Gospel, often weighing it down with diverse conditions and various pre-qualifications; in essence diluting the message of Grace, under a pretended or imaginary zeal for the ‘Reformers’ and their ‘Confessions,’ {which actually both sides laid claim to,} was met with little resistance, even amongst those who seemed to be ‘pillars’ in the ‘Church,’ eventually paving the way towards more rank Conditionalism, and ultimately Arminianism. In opposition to this, men like Lancaster, sought to rekindle in the ‘faithful’ a heightened sense of the pre-eminence of Christ, as the sum and substance of an accomplished redemption, for all for whom it was intended.< Less
Divine Consolations By Samuel Richardson

Christ crucified, the sum and substance of the Gospel; the Priesthood of Christ, and the sufficiency of his Sacrifice to save, is the main thing I contend for against the Papists, who say,... More > Christ’s sacrifice is not sufficient without their sacrifice. Charity saves, says one. Without good works, no salvation, says another. A third says that Christ’s sacrifice is not sufficient for our Salvation without believing, that believing saves, and that without believing, we cannot be saved. Ye see, they all urge a necessity of something for salvation besides Christ’s Sacrifice, without which something, they say, we cannot be saved; so that they deny the sufficiency of Christ’s sacrifice to save, and so deny that Christ does save. For those he saves, he saves by his sacrifice. Also if Christ and something else saves us, Christ saves us not. For he is no Saviour if he be but a part of a Saviour; therefore, in adding something to Christ’s sacrifice, they deny the sufficiency of Christ’s sacrifice.< Less

More > Preface: “My whole aim and scope in all I have written, is, first, to sustain, comfort, and encourage the discouraged soul from sinking in despair, by reason of their many and great sins; secondly, to withdraw the soul from the life of its own hand, to the life of the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation. Thirdly, that the soul might know and live in the assurance of the love of God, which will fill the soul full of life, sweetness, and joy. Fourthly, that the soul should obey Christ, and live to his Glory, and suffer for him. Fifthly, to prevent errors, and to rescue such who belong to Christ, who have through mistake fallen into blunders by the wiles of Satan.” Includes a Biographical Sketch of the Author.< Less

More > Christ’s righteousness is made ours by God’s imputation “before the act of our Faith.” Faith or Repentance were not conditions of salvation or justification; as he maintained that “the act of our faith is a consequent of our justification,” and likewise that “remission of sins is even as ancient as satisfaction for sin and at what time Christ Jesus taketh our sins upon Himself, at the same time are the persons of God’s elect just before the Tribunal of Almighty God.” This is a collection of five of his earliest, and most substantial writings, along with a brief biographical sketch.< Less

More > against the Deceiver and his Servants who endeavor the Cessation thereof, upon what Pretense Soever. In these perilous times, when ungodliness rages from place to place, and blasphemy against the God of Truth and Children of Righteousness, spreads itself, like an overflowing stream, or contagious disease, whereby truth seems to be fallen in the street; and many who formerly esteemed it their glory to be professors thereof have departed from it, and abandoned the profession of it; my spirit was exceedingly moved within me to publish this discourse, as to the consideration of those, who have already shaken off Christ’s easy yoke from their shoulders, that they may see from whence they are fallen, repent and do their first works.< Less
