Diamond fotografò le donne ricoverate nel manicomio pubblico di Surrey e testimoniò il piacere e l’interesse con cui le sue pazienti osservavano le immagini fotografiche rilevando un cambiamento in positivo nell’autostima di alcune pazienti fotografate. Da queste prime esperienze documentate di fototerapia, fino ad oggi, sono stati in molti ad utilizzare la fotografia come strumento terapeutico.
