"Ancestral Chains, Andrew Bloodline: Dna Part 8 of 8" By Mark D Bishop
eBook (PDF): $7.79
Cornwall county claims its own Celtic identity, but which aspects of my mother’s ancestry came from there was a muddle to me. I remember visiting a Cornish churchyard decades ago. It was in an... More > obscure village that I had been told was an ancestral seat, but I could not find any traces of anyone connected to my ancestry. Recently though, I decided to head for Cornwall again, this time armed to the teeth with a digital camera and a written list of my Cornish ancestral surnames; the idea being to have a poke around the villages and churches concerned, where my south-western relatives had bred and flourished. Click, click and double click, went my lens, as family name upon family name seemingly jumped out at me from almost every corner of every church and so many tombstones; they were a crock of gold sculpted in stone. Here then is but another puzzle for me to put the pieces thereof together, as I introduce my eternal great-grandmother: Part VIII of my DNA, Mary Brewer Morgan, nee Andrew (1878-1969).< Less
The Necromancers By Hugh Benson
Paperback: $15.95

Monsignor Robert Hugh Benson was an incredibly popular author and novelist. He was skilled in attacking evil practices without appearing to preach about them. In "The Necromancers" the... More > young barrister Laurie Baxter falls in love with a local girl, Amy, who dies of natural causes before they wed. Obsessed with her, and in his distress after her death, he can-t bear her absence. He needs to contact her, to touch her again, if at all possible. Baxter had recently converted intellectually to the Catholic Faith, but not with his heart. Amy-s death provides a test that he appears to fail. He connects with a spiritualist circle hoping that the medium will help him bring back his love. He will do anything to get back to Amy, except wait for eternity. As goes the ironic inscription on Amy-s tombstone, -I shall see her but not now.- He has a dream in which he encounters an overwhelmingly evil presence.< Less

1 Consciousness Stirs By Timothy Mead
eBook (PDF): $19.59
SUBJECTIVE EXPERIENCE. And if I wanted to be TOTALLY PC, I would say ‘experience-ing’; because the idea that ‘consciousness’ is SOMETHING became more of a hindrance than a... More > blessing EONS ago (in Expeditionary Time, that is. Expeditionary Eons are a bit SHORTER than the other kind … ). Subjective experience, that we KNOW from the INSIDE (and vastly over-interpret from ALL sides). A ‘phenomenon of interest’, sure. But really JUST SOMETHING THE BRAIN DOES. Down there in the hippocampi. And even if sea-horses DID have feet … shouldn’t they be HOOVES? Consciousness, subjectivity, is not a GIRT BIG THING, the way my species would LIKE it to be. It’s a little trick. Spectacular … but LITTLE. As opposed to terrible … but GREAT. That was something else, in another time and place …. Which reminds me of a dilemma, totally irrelevant and I won’t be here to witness the outcome, if any. On my tombstone … “Elvis has left the building”? … or “Grind me up, Scotty … “? As if it could possibly matter ….< Less

“It wasn’t all that grim,” she said. “We don’t have to go to Deadwood. I was thinking, maybe, Tombstone or Fort Sumner…” “Wyatt Earp or Billy the... More > Kid?” he said. “Are you nuts?” “Yes,” she said. “Absolutely. I went nuts the moment I saw a flaming star in the day sky hit a tower and reveal the man I love. It’s the only way it makes sense. I’m in an asylum somewhere dreaming all this.” They certainly looked the part: long dusters, black clothes, armed like tanks. The guns were too new, and the bullets they carried were all they’d have. “I know we shouldn’t be carrying Glocks into the 1880s,” Chloe said. “We damned well will, though,” he said. “It’s one of the most dangerous places we’ve gone and we need every advantage we can get. If we run out of bullets, we’ll have to use local guns. We’ll take advantage of the fact that everybody else has less than half the shots we have. Don’t think this is a joke. The people you met in the New Old West had been civilized once. Many of these folks haven’t been, ever.”< Less
