The Challenges of Non-linear Parameters and Variables in Automatic Loop Parallelisation By Armin Größlinger
Hardcover: $20.76
Prints in 3-5 business days
With the rise of manycore processors, parallelism is becoming a mainstream necessity. Unfortunately, parallel programming is inherently more difficult than sequential programming; therefore,... More > techniques for automatic parallelisation will become indispensable. This doctoral thesis aims at extending the well-known polyhedron model, which promises this automation, beyond some of its current restrictions. Up to now, loop bounds and array subscripts in the modelled codes must be expressions linear in both the variables and the parameters. This restriction is lifted to allow certain polynomial expressions instead of linear ones. With these extensions, more programs can be handled in dependence analysis, in the transformation of the program model and in code generation.< Less
Future Transformations By John O'Loughlin
eBook (ePub): $16.79
'Future Transformations' combines essays with dialogues, both of which are transcended by aphorisms in the lengthy appendix of what, for a work dating from 1982, remains one of John O'Loughlin's most... More > revolutionary projects, in that it addresses future transformations of humanity in relation to the post-human and, hence, on a basis transcending Western humanist conventions which can therefore be regarded as effectively global or universal in ideological scope. In that respect, this project signifies a transcendentalist rejection of humanism, even in relation to comparatively radical humanist authors like Aldous Huxley, whose concept of religious progress remained rooted in human parameters and thus in the delusion of human perfectibility in relation to God.< Less
Army Transformation: A View From The U.S. Army War College By Williamson Murray
Paperback: $25.98
Prints in 3-5 business days
As the United States enters a new century, its army confronts the difficult problems associated with transformation in an uncertain world. Moreover, the strategic environment makes it entirely... More > unclear where, or when, or for what strategic purposes U.S. ground forces will find themselves committed to battle in coming decades.1 Yet, both the strategic environment as well as the harsh lessons of the past have a direct bearing on why the Army has begun the processes of transformation.2 The study of the past cannot lead to prediction as to the nature and conduct of war in the 21st century, but it does underline that sometime in the future the Army will find itself committed to a major conflict. Moreover, the nature of the current strategic environment suggests the parameters within which the future Army will have to operate. Finally, history is crucial to understanding what factors and approaches might best prepare the Army to meet future threats.< Less
The Posse Comitatus Act: A Harmless Relic From The Post-Reconstruction Era Or A Legal Impediment To Transformation? By Donald J. Currier & Strategic Studies Institute
Paperback: $15.96
Prints in 3-5 business days
The Secretary of Defense should seek repeal of The Posse Comitatus Act (PCA). This Act presents a formidable obstacle to our nation’s flexibility and adaptability at a time when we face an... More > unpredictable enemy with the proven capability of causing unforeseen catastrophic events. The difficulty in correctly interpreting and applying the Act causes widespread confusion at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels of our military. Given that future events may call for the use of the military to assist civil authorities, a review of the efficacy of the PCA is in order. This paper documents the historical context of the PCA, explains the parameters of the law, and provides an analysis of the PCA’s value in today’s security environment. An analysis of the PCA will reveal that, although the policy goals behind the Act are generally sound and desirable, Congress could better implement their intent through other means.< Less
Valuation of Secruity By Homework Help Classof1
eBook (PDF): $5.99
We have looked at break-even calculations, scatter plots for estimating demand information, and trends in revenue so far. In each of these, we simplified the analysis to a straight line. While this... More > is useful, sometimes these data are more complex. They may be a curved line, or instead of only one item for the slope, such as variable costs, there may be several factors involved in the estimate. So demand, for example, may be based on price, convenience, or quality. How does a linear regression allow us to better estimate trends, costs, and other factors in complex situations?< Less

Half Life By Geoffrey P. Forster
eBook (PDF): $19.95
In Half Life Forster documents a detailed study of corporate survival trends, and examines and extends the existing landscapes, tools, models and indexes used to monitor the corporate life cycle.... More > Forster goes on to describe the creation of a new business fitness landscape model, introduces two new business risk parameters, creates a new business diversity fitness index, and completes a macro analysis of the extinction rates associated with the 100 largest corporations in the United States. With these new tools Forster establishes a new model for viewing the mean life and half life of large corporations and for studying the impact that related and unrelated diversification in industry participation has on a corporation's effective lifespan. Forster suggests that established corporations don’t survive just by being the fittest, but that they survive rapid discontinuous change by finding a new optimum position in a new business fitness landscape.< Less
