Their Hillsborough home, built in the Williamsburg style, is on the historical register and still serves as a private residence today. By 1860, James accepted a postal position in Goldsboro, NC, and the family relocated there. Soon afterwards, Goldboro became a Civil War battlefield and Jame died during that war.
