Furthermore the policies pursued in an attempt to secure the homeland often come at the expense of the freedom of the American people, and aggravate both America’s traditional allies and its new enemies, especially those in the Middle East. It finds that the War on Terrorism is badly affecting America’s global image which undermines its traditional dominant position in the global system, making it harder for the American government to gain support for the continuation of the war. All of these factors mean that unless the administration changes the way it fights the war against terrorism it is never going to win, and is actually more likely to be self-defeating than successful.< Less
